Die Kirche der Katholischen Hochschulgemeinde Köln PDF

Die Kirche wurde 1968 bis 1969 nach Entwürfen des Paderborner Bildhauers Josef Rikus erbaut. Es entstand eine begehbare Beton-Freiplastik, deren tragender Pfeiler die Gestalt eines Baumes aufgreift. In der Krypta „verwurzelt“ entwickelt sich nach oben ein starkes, in Sichtbeton gegossenes Geäst.

Die Betonwände werden von farbigen Glasbändern durchbrochen und geben den Blick frei zum benachbarten Wohnheim. Der Rheinische Verein für Denkmalpflege und Landschaftsschutz hat im März 2010 das für die Baukunst der 1960er und 1970er Jahre beispielhafte Objekt zum Denkmal des Monats ernannt, um eine angestrebte Unterschutzstellung zu betonen.
